How to check fibre internet availability at an address

Fibre availability differs from building to building, sometimes from entrance to entrance. We show how to check it and what to watch for.

Why "there is fibre in our area" is not enough

A fibre network is built in parts. That it runs in your street does not mean your building is connected. And that the neighbouring entrance is connected does not mean yours will be. Availability is therefore always judged at a specific address: street, house number and district.

Levels of availability

  • The building is connected. The strand is in the building and you only need to order the service and arrange the installation in your flat.
  • The network is nearby. The cable runs in your street but the building is not connected yet. The procedure depends on the building's owner.
  • Fibre has not arrived. There is no suitable network point nearby. An alternative is sought.

How to find out yourself

  1. Ask in the building. The association committee, the manager or neighbours usually know whether fibre has been installed. Look for notices and information from providers.
  2. Look at the building. Fibre connections are sometimes visible as a thin cable on the facade or on poles, but it is not reliable; many routes are underground.
  3. Use a check by address. Providers have their own availability finders, but each covers only its own network. Results can differ and may not always be up to date.
  4. Ask about speed and technology directly. Even with one provider it can differ whether it is fibre to the flat or to the building.

What to watch for

  • Information such as "available up to X Mbit/s" expresses an upper limit, not the speed you will actually get.
  • Availability can change when owners change or wiring is renovated.
  • For a new build or a recently renovated building it is worth asking whether wiring is already prepared.

What we do

Send us the address, the type of home and your phone. We check what connection is available at the building and, if fibre is missing, find the best available alternative: cable, VDSL or wireless. The check is free and non-binding. If the building has no fibre but you want it, the article Fibre in an apartment building or Bringing a fibre cable to your house will help.

Frequently asked questions

Is it enough to check availability with one provider?

Not always. Each provider knows only its own network, so results may differ. That is why we check wider options.

What does "available up to" mean for speed?

It is an upper limit. Actual speed depends on the plan, the building, the wiring and the devices.
